Welcome to week 5 of our Summer Blog Series: VB Inspired Designs! Our fifth design is a spectacular dining room. This design proves that a dining room doesn’t have to be grand in scale to make the impact you are after. It can be simple, clean, and creative to be the inspiring space you envision.
Creating a spectacular dining room starts with the perfect table. We chose a table from Intercon that boasts a hand-scraped, reclaimed wood look with a natural finish. The durable surface cleans easily from spills, spots, and stains—making it a perfect family table. The weathered patina of the tabletop says comfortable, simple, and down-home. The trestle-style base adds a design flair without sacrificing stability. It comes with a leaf to accommodate large family get-togethers.
DESIGN HINT: Having a dining table with a trestle or pedestal base gives you more flexibility with adding chairs comfortably around the table. The “grandness” of a trestle legged table is undeniable—it makes a statement that is both substantial and elegant.
Centerpieces can be seasonal or style-specific. We utilized different shapes and sizes of white pedestal candlesticks to add a sculptural feel to this grouping. This gives the eye a variation of height, along with repetition, while the green pears reinforce the look and provide a pop of color.
DESIGN HINT: A centerpiece creates a focal point within the space and can be switched out regularly. It can be a low cost commitment that packs a visual punch.
The style of chair surrounding this table is a traditional look. The turned legs provide an understated ornamentation to the humble nature of the reclaimed wood look. The upholstered seat adds both warmth and comfort to the slat backed chair. Opting for an upholstered dining chair is particularly popular right now –not only does it provide comfort, but it promotes the “post meal lounging” that we crave.
DESIGN HINT: Another popular look is created by surrounding your dining table with a bunch of individual and unique pieces. You can mix and match chairs with a hard seat to a fully upholstered parsons chair, from a bench to a low backed chair.
