Summer Blog Series: VB Inspired Designs 2
This summer, we are going to be showcasing room-by-room designs, explaining the thought behind every style decision, and giving you tips so you can incorporate these designs into your own home. Our second design focuses on varying patterns and textures, which help add interest and personality to any design.
Our featured design is a space that entices you to kick up your feet and relax. The two Smith Brothers sofas guarantee comfort, while the plethora of complimentary pillows adds color and pull the space together.
Although you have to look closely, this space boasts the little details. The lamp shade’s unique design is both aesthetically appealing and unique, while the base of the lamp is engraved to add texture and allurement.
Although the colors throughout the design are monochromatic, the varied patterns and textures add interest, personality, and “pop.” If you have trouble with layering patterns, it is often easiest to start with pillows. Enlivening a design with patterned pillows is a great way to become comfortable with layering and patterns without spending a lot of money.
The hidden gem within this design is the ottoman. While most ottomans tend to be leather, this ottoman is done in a striped fabric. The striped fabric adds personality and interest, and the pattern helps enliven the space. It’s also important to notice that the striped fabric on the ottoman matches the pattern of the complimentary pillows. This repetition helps pull the space together and adds some cohesion between contrasting patterns. While the ottoman adds interest to the space, it also provides the convenience of storage!
We cannot forget the accessories! The wall sconces flanking both sides of the mirror help to give the room depth and dimension. The two trees and multi-level stand with colored vases provide needed height visually. These art pieces (pictured) add a soothing sense of calmness and serenity to the space, while also providing a unique punch of brightness that makes the space alluring and interesting.
