Shedding Some Light on Lamp Selection
Designer’s Take: Kelley –
Your home is almost complete! You’ve decided on paint colors, chosen your rugs, found the perfect upholstery and end table combo and the artwork is unforgettable! But something is still missing. Well, we are here to help shed some light on the situation, literally! The right lamp can not only brighten up your room but also add that much-needed finishing touch.
You may be wondering why you need lamps…..you have sufficient overhead lighting. Well, the answer is simple. While overhead lighting is great for cooking and cleaning, lamps offer a different kind of warmth to a room. Of course, each room may require a different lamp; some rooms need to be bathed in light while others may need a more concentrated area of light. You have the potential to decorate with unique lamp styles, setting your space apart from the rest. In some rooms you really want to show off that lamp, while others need to blend in with your décor. Really consider your space and the tone it gives off, and select your lamps accordingly.
Living Room
A living room may require a more formal approach while still considering your décor. This particular room tends to be the one you put on full display for anyone who may come into your home, so feel free to get a little more decorative with your lamps.
Floor lamps are great for ambient lighting, which couples well with table lamps for your filler light. Be sure to not obstruct anyone’s line of sight between seats so that conversations may still be carried out comfortably.
Family Room
Your family room calls for a more casual form of lighting. Pottery, wood, metal, or glass are excellent choices for your family room. Since the family room may get used more than your living room, you may want to have the lamps match your furniture as well as be on the larger side to create a more comfortable and sturdier space for your family.
Bedroom
Bedrooms will need something slightly different. Choose table lamps that will not overwhelm your nightstand while making sure you have enough surface space for all your things; clock, phone, books, etc. Using an accent color for these lamps will really complement your bedroom’s main colors rather than just blending in. This is your space to relax so make it just how you need!
Office
Your office space is where you will want to take out that task lamp. Task lamps assist in certain activities such as reading. Function is very important but that does not mean we forget about style. A task lamp will illuminate your work space and keep you focused. If a desk task lamp clutters your space you may want to consider a floor lamp with a gooseneck reading arm! It will keep your space clean while still illumining the importance of your work. Offices will need a less intrusive lamp that will not distract, so finding one that blends will help you stay focused and be more productive.
Finding a lamp that matches the tone of your room can take some time, but it’s well worth it. Lamps are a great decorative piece as well as a way to illuminate. We hope some light has been shed on the situation, pun intended. Now, during our BOGO Lighting Sale, buy one lamp, get one 50% off!
