Curated Design
Written by Peg
I recently noticed an ad in one of the national magazines headlined “curated design” and was reminded of our trip to the Fall High Point Market. One of the largest furniture distributors was touting their new “curated” showroom on one entire level of their building. We eagerly stepped out of the elevator and found that the new innovation in merchandising was something we had been doing for years.
Curiosity led me to look up the meaning of curated and found it refers to selecting, organizing and presenting something. In our case it is home furnishings and we felt validated in our marketing practices that even though we may be small town, farm-grown designers, we are still on the cutting edge of design. We try to present our merchandise in a way that allows you to imagine it in your home setting.
An eye for design is never really something that is turned off. We watch the set design rather than the movie’s plot. A shopping trip has us looking up and around rather than at the racks; and a restaurant or motel lobby has us grabbing for our camera so we can show a client something that can be incorporated in their home. We just never labeled what we do as curating before. Whatever the wording may be, the results are the same. Our designers offer the latest input on trends as well as a careful respect for your own personal needs and desires.
