Summer Blog Series: VB Inspired Designs 4
Welcome to week 4 of our Summer Blog Series: VB Inspired Designs! For those new to our blog, this summer we will be showcasing room-by-room designs, explaining the thought behind every style decision, and giving you tips so you can incorporate these designs into your own home. Our fourth design is a beach-inspired room with a casual, coastal style. Natural fibers and textures are key to achieving a beachy vibe, while the furniture within the space should evoke feelings of comfort and ease.
Even when the sand and waves aren’t as close as you’d like, this featured design creates a space that resembles a beach bungalow–with turquoise and aqua accents, crisp fabrics, distressed wood, rope and wicker.
A beach bungalow should provide an oasis of comfort and ease. This space creates an aura of relaxation and tranquility. Watch the sun set from one of these comfortable chairs. The teal colored recliner by Southern Motion invites you to sink into relaxation. The swivel chair from Best is upholstered in fabric appropriately named Aquamarine. Both of these pieces invite you to relax and put your feet up.
The white ottoman from Smith Brothers evokes the look of a sandy beach, which helps to relax the mood. The added bonus is the extra storage it provides.
As we said before, relaxation is key for coastal living, so a comfy sofa is a must. This sofa by Smith Brothers keeps living easy. The beautiful blue-green fabric mimics the color of ocean waves.
Take your lounging into tropical territory with this striped rug from Surya–made with the colors of a sun-dappled sea. The rug anchors the space and pulls the entire room together.
Natural fibers are key in achieving a beachy vibe with coastal textures throughout a space. Rope, metal, glass, wood, and wicker all create a dialogue between natures elements. All things from under the sea (fish), over the sea (sun-drenched woods), and near the sea (rocks) are a great fit for a seaside-inspired room.
Driftwood adds age, has a history of being beaten by the sea, and creates a weathered patina. The sun-bleached and distressed plant stands have sunshine and sand written all over them.
Shells and rocks always conjure up images and memories of the beach. The large glass vases can be used to display your collection from a walk along the beach.
A natural, wood-framed mirror is a must in this space. You can hang it up or leave it against a wall for a casual look. The reflection from the mirror will bounce light across the room like sunshine on the waves.
A small side table in weathered wood fits this space perfectly–the neutral tones and complex grainy texture are truly at home in a beach-style space. The drawer rope handles look like they achieved their patina in the salty air.
Woven lamps pack a beachy punch, and they help to give the room a casual vibe.
Nothing says nautical quite like rope. The rope-entwined glass is an important element within the design because of the added natural and subtle coastal texture.
