Peg’s Take: Affordable Style with Lane Furniture
If any of you have been in the Centre Mall lately, you may have noticed a new furniture arrangement in our display. One of our very own designers, Peg Mouw, expressed her creativity and style with bold colors and timeless textures seen throughout this space. We asked Peg some questions about her design choices in the mall display and here’s what we found out!
For customers who want to focus on quality but have a limited budget, what would you suggest for a starter piece of furniture to make the largest impact and biggest bang for your buck?
I start with the sofa. It’s usually best to do that in a solid; then in the long run you have flexibility.
With this moderately priced Lane furniture, what kind of quality should we expect?
We have put a lot of thought into the brands we carry. No one, ourselves included, wants to deal with problems; we try to work with companies that we feel have good quality. Also, keep checking the store! Right now we are marking down floor models in anticipation of our trip to the Las Vegas market.
Why orange? Is that color ‘in’ right now? What other colors should we be looking for?
We love color! All colors! Orange and bold colors are everywhere but greys with soft plums and blues are huge. We can’t wait to get to market and see what they will be showing.
You used many different textures (shag rug, wood, metal, cloth furniture, glass, greenery etc.) Why did you use so many and how would you suggest the typical person bring that into their home?
Texture not only adds interest to a space, but it is often easy to live with too. One example is distressed furniture and flooring, which is very forgiving. It shows less dust and marks, while metal just simply wipes clean.
The colors and pieces seem to be bold in and of themselves; yet together, they flow nicely. How would you suggest bringing this into others’ homes? (bold colors that fit well with their surroundings)
You have heard the expression “Go big or go home” …we think its ok to go big at home. In recent years, the world has arrived at our doorstep so to speak. All styles and looks are now easily available so go ahead and make a statement! The main thing is always going to be balance and proportion of colors and shapes in the room. If you need a second opinion or just some suggestions for achieving this, Jodi and I would be happy to run out and see what you have to work with and help find just the right things to pull it all together!
