Here comes Design It 2013
Are you thinking about entering the Design It 2013 competition? I don’t know about you, but I personally am intrigued by the thought of this competition, but I feel like I need to know if it is actually something worth my time. Is it hard? Do I have to buy anything? Am I the creative enough? The list goes on and on.
Well I am here to tell you that the Design It 2013 competition is well worth your time! You get to work with all that Vander Burg furniture has to offer, and decorate a room the way you would like it to look. What a fun and exciting experience! Then to top it all off, your room will be on display in the Centre Mall, and if your room receives the most votes, you will win $1,000 dollars at Vander Burg Furniture.
Wow, sounds like a little risk for such a high reward… okay sign me up.
For those of you who are not convinced as me just yet. Read on to see what Bonita Van Otterloo has to say, she entered into the Design It 2012 competition, was chosen, and given the chance to showcase her creative skills by designing a room for all to see in the Centre Mall in Sioux Center. Van Otterloo ended up winning the vote for first place in this competition. I recently had the opportunity to ask her some questions about her Design It 2012 experience!
If you could choose to would you enter into the Design It 2012 again?
Definitely. I had so much fun putting the room together and then introducing it to my family and friends.
How did you create your winning room design?
I wanted a warm feeling room, something that I would want to spend time in. I knew I wanted to incorporate some type of office or study space, and I worked from there. I found a nice desk and from there added a fireplace, a fun orange rug, a fluffy rocker, and a patterned chair. I found a great cabinet piece while looking around the store and knew I wanted it in the room as well. While there was some orange in the room and a warm feel, I also added some “shine” to it with a mirror piece, shiny bar stool and some other accessories to give it a slight contemporary feel.
What did you like about designing your own room?
I love being creative, and I really liked the idea of having the whole store at my disposal to design a room that reflected something I would do in my own home. Although I came in with an idea of what I wanted to do, looking around the store really made me think outside the box and expand that idea into a cozy, relaxing room.
