Three Steps to Contemporary Design
By Keanna – We always want the latest and greatest – that can even be said for design! Contemporary is just that. You see it all over TV, Pinterest, hotels and restaurants. You may be hoping to add a little bit of this to your space, but have no idea where to start — stay tuned.
First things first, you may be asking yourself, what is contemporary? This style of design encompasses clean, sleek lines and a neutral palette with a pop of color here and there. It is typical for contemporary furniture to be low to the ground, have straight lines and metal frames.
The big emphasis in contemporary is basic shapes and forms. Graphic elements can be included in artwork and accent decor.
So, how can you subtly add it to your space without a complete overhaul?
- Declutter! Every piece in the room should have a purpose – if it doesn’t, get rid of it!
- Keep a neutral color palette with one to three pops of color. You can add a pop of color with an accent wall, have a solid, bold colored accent chair, or a large, bold colored graphic wall art piece.
- Invest in a few contemporary pieces. If getting all new furniture isn’t an option, invest in a few accessories. Look for basic shapes with clean lines. Keep it simple.
