Not Your Grandma’s Wallpaper
By Peg
Personality – how do you add your own spin to a home in an affordable yet dramatic fashion?
Wall covering! It’s been around the block a few times, I know, but we’re not talking about your grandma’s wallpaper. For one thing, there are many styles offered that can be removed in one big tug. Another update is that it has been “simplified.” Many styles are predominately tone on tone or almost 3D textures. Of course we can do the over-sized patterns, but many of those have an abundance of negative space which keeps the room airy and fresh.
Consider a wall in the foyer to start your story as guests enter your home. It can be the foundation for the color palette that allows you to be a bit more daring while you keep your investment pieces of furniture more timeless and neutral.
The guest bath can also benefit from being wrapped in wall covering. It is a pleasant surprise that is not such a big “commitment” shall we say? It is a short-term use space that generally is closed off, but can be a pleasant surprise to family and friends.
I can share a fun coincidence with her newest line… these images are of one of our own office projects for an area business. The office we helped renovate was on the site of an old grain elevator, much like “the Silos” that Chip and Joanna have renovated. We included, as artwork, images of the former grain elevator as well as the blueprints that were found on site. We simply purchased metal sheeting and plexiglass and held them together with standoff pegs which we used to mount them.
Joanna’s new paper from Magnolia is called “the Market” and works off that same concept! These blueprint patterns would be a great addition to a grain farmer’s office, an architect, engineer, or a youngster with a mechanical mindset, just as it was for our client in the excavating business.
So bring your ideas in, and we will throw in our ideas that might be a little out-of-the-box for you. Together we will find the perfect touch for your space.
