Cozy Up Your Home
By Peg – Summer has been easing its way into fall and as usual our weather hasn’t been “usual”. August may have felt like Fall but the calendar is now telling us Fall is on its way. Many of you, like myself, may really enjoy this time of year. Spending time outdoors is still an option but curling up in my favorite chair is becoming an equally appealing option. This time of year is a great time to do the small touches that transition your space into a cozier feel. I put away my patterns and colors in pillows and add a soft colored down filled throw pillow or two.
A centerpiece, or any greens you have around the home, may benefit from adding just one or two berry stems to signal fall without feeling like Thanksgiving is imminent. You may want to consider changing to an ottoman from your current coffee table. Adding the tactile layer of the fabric or leather is a welcoming addition. You are less likely to have that can of pop in hand, but if that is a concern on the occasional hot afternoon it is easily addressed with a small tray.
You may also want to take an objective look at your home through the eyes of your guests as they would be arriving in the coming months for holiday events. Use this as lead time to order a new rug for the foyer. There has been a revolution in the rug industry over the past several years. Rugs can make that statement you want and now are available in completely worry free fibers that withstand daily life and the weather that will come our way.
You may also want to give that print on the foyer wall a break and add a great mirror for any future guests to touch up their hair as they arrive. I like to remind people it is important to give some thought to the entrance to your home. Often times it is the only impression friends and associates will have of your home when they pop over to drop off that item you need or stop to pick you up for an event.
We have lots of ideas to cozy up your home for the cooler weather, and we’d love to help you make that transition. Stop in and let’s visit!
This fall we will begin our series of blogs on the subject of our Vander Berg model homes. We took the opportunity to furnish them in four different styles: traditional, transitional, rustic and contemporary. We will be sharing tips on creating your style within the walls of your home right here in the heart of the Midwest. Be watching for these interesting and educational pieces coming soon.
