Keep It Simple: Basic Tips for Better Flooring Care
Your flooring is a big investment and can look great if you take the time to keep it clean. Whether you have carpet or hard surface flooring, a little extra care can go a long ways!
For homes with carpet, vacuuming is the obvious choice. But even with regular vacuuming, soil particles and oily dirt will cling to carpet fibers. Foot traffic drives these particles and dirt deep into the carpet. Therefore, you may need to have your carpets professionally cleaned on a regular basis. Our flooring vendor, Mohawk, requires professional hot water extraction every 18 months, with proof of receipts, for warranty. Periodic cleaning by a professional using hot water extraction will refresh your carpet appearance. Also, remember that the areas most used (entrances, doorways, traffic lanes and in front of chairs) will collect dirt faster than other areas, so be sure to clean and vacuum these areas more often to keep from spreading soil to other areas.
How about hard surface? Hard surfaces are easier to clean and keep clean. Most hard surface flooring can be cleaned with simple dust mopping and spot cleaning as needed. You can also use mats inside or outside your home to help eliminate dirt from entering your home, resulting in cleaner floors and less maintenance.
