Throw or Keep? What To Do About Flooring With Water Damage.
Many of the communities in our area have been impacted by severe weather and flooding recently. And countless families and individuals have experienced water in their basements. As basements dry out and water is removed, questions about the flooring in the basement often come up. Can my flooring be salvaged? Do I need to replace it? What are my options?
Depending on what type of flooring you have, your “next steps” could vary – so take a look below at our suggestions:
CARPET: In some cases, carpet can be salvaged even if it is completely saturated. Remove it and allow it to dry. Make sure it has dried completely before storing or re-laying it. If the carpet pad is saturated, it will retain moisture and will need to be disposed of and replaced.
WOOD or LAMINATE: If either wood or laminate flooring experiences any moisture, it will most likely need to be replaced.
VINYL: If vinyl floors are glued down, they can likely be salvaged when dried with fans.
CERAMIC: Ceramic floors are the best option for flood prone areas and can be easily dried with towels or fans and likely reused!
